The Couchiching Conservancy has a rare opportunity to protect more than 4 km of Black River shoreline,
winding through 730 acres of diverse wilderness. This parcel will fill a significant gap in
 Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park.  Janet Grand and volunteers are organizing a number
of events at the property. You can hike, bike or paddle and explore this magnificent property.
 Donate to participate and help protect this land.

There is a hike on August 27 at 1:00pm. Have a leisurely look at what will be the Black River Wildlands.
 Join naturalists and volunteers to learn about the property and its unique features.
 Invest in the protection of this land with a minimum donation of $30 per person to participate.
 Parking at Lewisham Rd with carpooling 5 minutes to the start of the property.

Friday, September 15, 2017          ANNUAL JOINT CLUB MEETING

 Doors open at 7, program begins at 7:30.

                          Mark Peck:     "The Value of Citizen Science in the 21st Century"  
     Mark Peck manages the ornithology collections at the Royal Ontario Museum,
 where he has worked for over thirty years. He began his career there as a tree-climbing nest finder (!)
 and has since broadened his skills to include not only collections manager but also field researcher,
 public speaker and interpreter, nature photographer, and gallery developer.
 Applying his deep knowledge of Ontario ornithology,
Mark has also worked for many years on the Ontario Bird Records Committee. 
Mark will speak to the joint meeting of the Simcoe County nature clubs.
 His interest in natural history has not only formed his career work,
 but he has also been engaged in many citizen science initiatives, most recently
with the opportunities afforded by the internet and its capacity
 for storing great quantities of citizen-generated sightings and other data.
